VFW to Answer VA Claims Questions During Live Town Hall on Facebook, April 24, 2014

When:  Thursday, April 24 at 2 p.m. (CDT).

Veterans nationwide are encouraged to participate.

One of the biggest challenges VFW members face is the timely and accurate processing of their VA claims. That’s why the VFW will host a Facebook town hall meeting on Thursday, April 24 at 2 p.m. (CDT) to discuss the claims process and veterans’ benefits, as well as how VFW Service Officers can assist with filing claims – a service the VFW offers free of charge.

A VFW Service Officer will answer questions for one hour during the town hall, providing you with useful and accurate information and resources.

Any Facebook user can participate by visiting the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW Facebook page at the time of the event. You can simply present a question in the comments section of the VFW’s post announcing the town hall has begun. It is possible that not all questions will be answered in the given time frame, so be sure to vote for the questions you think are most important by giving them a “Like.”

Don’t forget to join us LIVE on April 24.

It is with absolute giddy pleasure that I announce that VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 10247 in Fernley, NV will be representing the Department of Nevada at the National Convention with it’s winning poppy display, “Flanders Field”

Designed by Post 10247 member and embroidery artist, Bobbi Smith, and assembled by the busy hands of several hard working post members our Buddy Poppy entry was a labour of love.  The display includes hundreds Buddy Poppy flowers individually affixed to an intricately embroidered cotton background.

Several hours, many minds and busy hands went into creating this award winning piece and to say that we are excited to represent the VFW Department of Nevada at the National Convention with our tribute to Veterans and the Buddy Poppy would be putting it mildly.

A very hearty congratulations to all participants!  To learn more about the Buddy Poppy and this contest, click here for the VFW Buddy Poppy Chairman’s Guide (opens in new window, .pdf format).

We can’t wait to see you at nationals!

VFW Ladies Auxiliary Nevada Department 3 President Visits Fernley!

Judy McDonald is the President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Nevada District 3 and it’s her job to visit as many posts as possible within her district during her tenure in office.  Sometimes these road trips can take her far from her native post of 9211 in Reno, NV.  Imagine our pleasure at the chance to host her as the guest of honour during our April meeting!

Not only was Judy the guest of honor but we were delighted to be joined by VFW Post 10247 Commander, Doug Stout and Post 10247 Quartermaster, Jason Clark.

After much merriment at lunch it was time to get down to business, including the presentation of some very fancy scented soy candles to Judy as thanks for her visit!

Post President, Faye Bunce presents District 3 President Judy McDonald (of Post 9211) a gift on behalf of Ladies Aux. Post 10247 during her visit in April. Fernley, Nevada

Thank you Judy, Doug and Jason for visiting our lunch and meeting!  We had a great time hosting you and you are welcome back anytime (especially if you bring chocolate…just kidding.).

VFW Ladies Auxillary Post 10247 is Online!

So there I was, sitting hiddled by a portable heat tower under a side awning in front of the local Wal-Mart trying to avoid the blistering wind and keep hundreds of poppies from blowing all over the parking lot.

My name is Jamie, my husband, Jason is a veteran of the war in Iraq and the Quartermaster of the Fernley VFW Post, and I had volunteered to help his post with their Buddy Poppy Drive.

As I sat there collecting donations and attempting to mitigate the weather an amazing thing happened.  Veteran after veteran came up to the table, introduced themselves and then proceeded to mention how they had no idea the VFW, even existed in Fernley.

A typical story went like this, “Well we googled it and nothing came up!”

The decision to go online was a simple one.  How could we possibly do our best to support community veterans if they didn’t know we existed!
