VFW Nevada Department Convention: Buddy Poppy Display Winners 2013

It is with absolute giddy pleasure that I announce that VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 10247 in Fernley, NV will be representing the Department of Nevada at the National Convention with it’s winning poppy display, “Flanders Field”

Designed by Post 10247 member and embroidery artist, Bobbi Smith, and assembled by the busy hands of several hard working post members our Buddy Poppy entry was a labour of love.  The display includes hundreds Buddy Poppy flowers individually affixed to an intricately embroidered cotton background.

The 2013 VFW Nevada Department Convention winner: Buddy Poppy display, inspired by the John McCrae poem written during the First World War, by VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 10247, Fernley, NV

Several hours, many minds and busy hands went into creating this award winning piece and to say that we are excited to represent the VFW Department of Nevada at the National Convention with our tribute to Veterans and the Buddy Poppy would be putting it mildly.

A very hearty congratulations to all participants!  To learn more about the Buddy Poppy and this contest, click here for the VFW Buddy Poppy Chairman’s Guide (opens in new window, .pdf format).

We can’t wait to see you at nationals!

VFW Ladies Auxiliary Nevada Department 3 President Visits Fernley!

Judy McDonald is the President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Nevada District 3 and it’s her job to visit as many posts as possible within her district during her tenure in office.  Sometimes these road trips can take her far from her native post of 9211 in Reno, NV.  Imagine our pleasure at the chance to host her as the guest of honour during our April meeting!

Not only was Judy the guest of honor but we were delighted to be joined by VFW Post 10247 Commander, Doug Stout and Post 10247 Quartermaster, Jason Clark.

After much merriment at lunch it was time to get down to business, including the presentation of some very fancy scented soy candles to Judy as thanks for her visit!
